All the gondolas at the Finnish skiing resort Ylläs look the same, transporting happy skiers with cold noses and toes. All of them, except the wooden one - the world’s first sauna gondola.
A ride in the sauna gondola lasts for around 20 minutes, and then you get the beautiful view over the Finnish forest and mountainscape as part of the deal. The surroundings are magnificent, being part of the Finnish National Park, Pallas-Yllästunturin. Four people can enjoy the sauna gondola at the same time, and when you book a ride, you also get access to the sauna and relaxation area on top of the mountain. Here you will not only find another sauna, but also an open fire, showers and a heated, outdoor jacuzzi. Renting the gondola is a costly adventure, amounting to around 1 350 euro, but the experience is definitely one of a kind.
