There’s something truly special about a wood-burning sauna – the gentle heat, the scent of smoke, and the presence of a living fire create a unique and calming atmosphere. Kastor wood-burning heaters embody this tradition at its finest, combining decades of experience, premium quality, and modern design.

Every Kastor heater is built to withstand time and use, offering both durability and an exceptional sauna experience. But how do you choose the right wood burning heater from our selection to suit your specific needs?

Determining required heating power

The first steps include browsing the general product range and determining the required heating power based on the calculated volume of your sauna. Our selection includes heaters suitable for sauna rooms ranging from 8 to 40 m³. When calculating the power requirement, consider the following factors: the volume of the sauna room, insulation level, log construction, windows and glass doors, and the impact of glass, tile, or stone surfaces.

You don’t need to do all the calculations yourself – contact our dealer closest to you and they will help you with this. Please find your closest dealer through this map. Choosing a heater that matches the size of your sauna room is essential not only for optimal heat but also for the longevity of the heater.

Different features and style options of wood burning heaters

Once you’ve determined the calculated volume and heating power, you’re well on your way. Next, consider what features you’d like in your heater, explore different design options, and check the available space in your sauna room.

Kastor’s selection includes traditional wood-burning heaters, models with integrated water tanks, and tunnel models that allow you to light the fire and add wood from outside the sauna room. So, consider whether your heater requires to heat water for washing, and whether you prefer to tend the fire from inside the sauna or from outside.

Water tank models conveniently heat washing water while the heater is in use, with a tank capacity of 28 liters. If you need more hot water, a combination of a heater without a tank and the Karhu Pata, with a 60-liter tank, may be ideal for your sauna.

While functionality is key, aesthetics also matter. Kastor Karhu heaters feature a classic yet stylish design that suits many sauna interiors. Kastor Saga heaters, with their large stone capacity, are visually striking and make a bold statement. Both models are available with tunnel doors.

Safety and clearance requirements in the sauna room

Finally, ensure your sauna room has enough space for the heater you’re planning to install. Check the heaters user manual for safety distances and consider whether a protective base is needed – especially for flammable flooring. For Karhu heater, safety distances can be reduced with a protective wall set, available for both standard and water tank models.

By considering these aspects, you’re well on your way to finding the perfect heater. And if you’re still unsure, don’t hesitate to contact your local dealer – they are happy to help you make the right choice!
